About Us

The main purpose of the Building Department in Demopolis, Alabama is to provide support, guidance and inspections for new construction, buildings and remodeling of structures for compliance with local, state and federal laws.

Plan reviews of new construction, additions or remodels are also handled by this department. Once construction plan reviews are completed, a Building Permit will be issued.

Per the City’s Building Code. “No person shall begin work without a valid Building Permit.”

After the building permit has been issued, inspections can be scheduled. When all required inspections are completed, and all work is in compliance, a certificate of occupancy will be issued as the final step in the process.
